We’ve been lucky enough to visit Morocco on a couple of occasions and we’ve always had an amazing time. It’s definitely worth it!  Whether it’s getting lost in the bustling souks, relaxing on the beach, exploring the culture and food, or an adventure into the desert, Morocco has so much to offer. We’ve put together a little guide of where to visit in Morocco for your perfect trip. This is based on around two weeks, which we think is plenty of time to explore different places and see what Morocco is truly about.

Marrakesh

Marrakesh is going to be your starting point, there’s a lot going on so we would suggest giving yourself 2-3 days to explore this amazing city. We would recommend staying in a Riad towards the edge of the Medina.

In Marrakesh you can wander around the Medina and Souks, take in Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, relax in beautiful gardens, and visit the mosques & palaces. Also make sure you try the local food and fresh orange juice from one of the many rooftop restaurants looking over the medina.

Desert Trip

From Marrakech you won’t find it hard to find a tour to take you into the Desert for one or two nights. You can also find plenty of options on Get Your Guide. This was a truly memorable experience which you must do on your trip. We opted for just one night due to our schedule, which will start from about £50 per person.

Typically you will get picked up in the morning and on route to the desert you will stop off for lunch and some attractions. We got to explore Aït Benhaddou, which was a highlight seeing this spectacular UNESCO World Heritage site that was used in Game of Thrones and Gladiator.

In the afternoon you can take a camel ride or possibly enjoy a quad bike through the desert. Personally we don’t recommend the camel ride as we try to travel ethically. In the evening you will join your hosts for a delicious Moroccan dinner around the fire under the stars. You will sleep in a traditional tent, which is spacious and comfortable.

The next morning you can take some photos of the sun rising in the desert, before heading back to Marrakech.

Essaouira

After exploring Marrakech and adventuring across the desert, you might want a calmer few days and to see another side of Morocco. It’s difficult to choose, but Essaouira might be our favourite city in Morocco to spend a few days relaxing, exploring the beautiful little streets of the Medina, and soaking up the culture in this captivating coastal town. We loved the white and blue buildings throughout, exploring the little colourful streets and souks, and adventuring around the old fort and walls. It was truly charming! In the evening Essaouira was the perfect place to find a spot to enjoy a tea and listen to some local music in the evening.

Agadir

Agadir again has a different atmosphere to the previous places. It’s got a big city feel with lots to do making it a good place to stop for a few more days on your way down to Taghazout. Take some time walking (and relaxing) on the beach, shop at Souk El Had – one of Morocco’s largest markets, enjoy the sights of Kasbah Agadir Oufella Fortress – which offers stunning views across Agadir, and explore Agadir Medina to understand more about the old city.

Taghazout

Looking for where to visit in Morocco which is a little bit different, then you have to head to Tagazhout. A charming fishing village with a local feel ideal for relaxing, meeting new people, and surfing. There’s a long picturesque beach which is popular with locals and tourists and you will find many options to surf independently or as part of a lesson. Yoga is another popular option in Taghazout.

The little streets and local restaurants are a great place to unwind and enjoy Morocco. In the early evening, you have to walk up to Taghazout Skate Park where locals and tourists come together to enjoy the view, watch the skaters and have a cup of tea. This was very unique and a really wholesome evening.

Final Thoughts & Things To Know

Before we leave you we just wanted to share a few pointers from our experiences in Morocco.

Overall Morocco is an affordable option when compared with much of Europe. Eating out and accommodation is very reasonable. Flights from Europe can start at only £50 return depending when you travel.

In Souks you will find haggling is common when buying goods such as souvenirs. However, we usually found the local vendors to be fair and friendly. Some places will take card, though Morocco is somewhere you will want to carry some cash too. The currency is Moroccan Dirham.

Please respect the culture, Morocco is predominantly a Muslim country and you should respect this and the locals. On many beaches you will be okay to wear what you are comfortable in, as long as you are still being respectful. In the Medinas you should consider how you are dressed, especially when visiting mosques and certain attractions.

You will definitely be able to find decent weather in Morocco, we would recommend visiting in Spring or Autumn for warm weather which will still be comfortable to explore. You should be aware though that in the desert the temperature at night can easily drop.

We often hear about whether Morocco is a safe destination. Of course do your own research, and consider what you are comfortable with. From our experience Morocco is very safe, the people are friendly and you are unlikely to encounter any problems if you are sensible and respectful. The only concern we had was walking around Marrakesh Medina at night, we wouldn’t recommend doing this alone.

We really hope this has been helpful if you are wondering where to visit in Morocco. If you haven’t already booked it, then what are you waiting for!
